Gossip Girl

Hello Upper East Sider’s I hope you enjoyed your summer. I certainly needed the break from snooping. I did a lot of traveling over break and as always made myself a playlist for the long car trips. I know that you are all curious about what Gossip Girl listens to so here is a sample of my playlist.

This past year was full of hot steamy love. Love that was brilliantly capture in Dan’s ‘The Insider” . As we all know in the Upper East Side “if you kiss, I’ll tell”, but so will Dan apparently (more about his book later). Here is a little video I put together showing some of the year’s hottest moments.

On the top of the “summer reading list” for those in the know is Dan Humphrey’s exposé on the elite social lifes of our vary own Upper East Siders. It turns out that most of you are protrayed in a … less than glamourous way. Well, all except one… it seems that Ms. Blair Waldorf has captured the heart of Dan because in the book Queen Bitch is simply Blair, the girl next door.

Well it seems like Queen B is once again the center of attention. If you haven’t heard she has a new love interest…Prince of Monaco! Our Upper East Side Leading Lady is dating up… way to go B! If you want to stay constant with B’s love life, you might want to bookmark Blair’s facebook page. Give that B, herself, is the most reliable source of gossip.

This just in… it seem as though B and her Prince Charming have set a day and it looks like I’ll be attending…will you? Here’ s a pick of the royal invitation…classy!

The first day back at school was full of juicy gossip. However, instead of just sending out a blast, I decided to record my day. Give you a little taste of how Gossip Girl gets her information.

Don’t  be the last to know all the good juice gossip… go to the Gossip Girl Website and sign up to recieve blast…an remember to check your cellphone regularly!

Summary of My Two Assignments

For my first assignment, I choose to do an audio assignment. The blog and tutorial can be found on this blog page with the tutorial.

Music Tag

One of my favorite type of assignments is audio!  Lyrics and songs are great ways to tell stories. Have you notice similar themes extend genres… lyrics overlapping. Your task is to create a story by using audio snippets from songs. The trick is you have to have the last word of your clip, be the same word that starts the next clip. Use at least 5 different songs, try to include different genres or decades.

  1. Find all the YouTube videos of your songs and position it to play a little before the part you want to capture.
  2. Use Audacity to record the clips
  3. Edit the Clips Together
  4. Export Your New Story

For my example I used:

Below is the lyrics of my music tag.. the word/pharses that are shared are bolded.

Why don’t you stay. I’m down on my knees. I’m so tired of being lonely. Don’t I give you what you need. When she calls you to go. There is one thing you should know. We don’t have to live this way Baby, why don’t you stay Just a  little bit longer .Please let me hear .You say that you will Say you will. Say you will. Together can never be close enough for me. To feel like I am close enough to youYou wear white and I’ll wear out the words I love you. Andyou’re beautiful. You’re beautiful, You’re beauitful its true. There must be an angel with the smile on her face, when she thought up that I should be with you need a man. I need a man. Who can keep me satisfied. I better shape up If I’m gonna prove. you better prove. That my faith is justified. Are you sure.Y es I’m sure down deep inside. You’re the one that I want. Oo-oo-oo, honey

I believe songs are the most unviersal way to tell stories. It, therefore, isn’t surprisng that songs tend to overlap. This assigment made me think of all the themes (not just genres) that I listen too! I, also, shows the connectivness of people acrosse time.

For my second assingment, I chose to do a video or maybe a mash-up assignment. I called it video because originally I believed it to be video. However, after writting up a post about it… I reconsidered… it is called Music Video. The assignment can be found here.

I love video and audio, so I combined these two mediums in video form. The goal was to create a Music Video using clips from a movie. Music videos are musics companion in telling stories. I personally perfer music videos becasue I can visualize the lyrics better. For my example, I used The Notebook a movie based on Nicolas Spark’s book and “Hey Pretty Girl”by Kip Moore.

I believe the storyline in the The Notebook is greatly reflected in the the song “Hey Pretty Girl”. Both types of story are about falling in love with a pretty girl, becoming a family, and living out the rest of their lives together The two combined truly enhance the story.

Note: I think was truly makes this a music video is the shots of Kip Moore sing….just like iin the  real video :)

Wanna Know How I Did It:

You will need PWNYouTube bookmarklet and Audacity.

Wanna Know How To Do This:

You are going to need Audacity. In order to make the tutorial, I used Screen-O-Matic.  Both of these are free download and are very user friendly!

REMIXIN’

Originally, I watched the “Everything is a Remix” video and, then, I watched the “A Fair (y) Use Tale“. However, I think that watching the “Fair(y) Use Tale” should be watch before the other video.  The “Fair(y) Use Tale” is excellent at laying out the basic rules of copyright that we discussed in the first.  I was fascinated in learning that copyright used to only extend 14 years. However, today it is a lifetime plus 70 years.  I thought it useful to know that fair – use is pretty open so long as it follows the rule about the duration of the media used, commerical impact or is  used in teaching, new reporting, paradoy, or critical comment. The “Fair (y) Use Tale” was clever because the Disney Movies were used to teach about copyright! Therefore, it falls under fair use. Furthermore, the duration of the clips were very mininum.

The “Everything is a Remix”  was this beautiful series that basically explained that nothing… NOTHING….is original. Meaning that everything, even the lightbulb and printing press were remixes/modification on other inventions. Macintosh and Xerox were also modification upon other inventions. They, also, discussed music because often remixing is associated with song remixing .The example they use is Led Zeppelin who remixed beats from other artists without fundamentally changing it. The point is that very few things we hear are original, most are updated beats or lyrics.

Recycling Media

Recycle The Media

My story is that you are sitting down to show slideshows to family, just memories that you want to share. You show pictures of your family, home, school, friends, etc. You tell a story with the pictures. How, as a father, you remember taking your daughter fishing. How you remember breaking into school. How every building and picture has a fun story attached to it. I used audacity to edit the music together, PWNYouTube to get the video clips, and Window Movie Maker to put the slideshow together. I had to adjust the timing of picture extensively. I, also, added transitions to create a more slideshow effect.

Returning to the Scene of My Wish *****

Returning to the Scene of the Crime: Countrify *****

For my assingment I was given “Return to the the Scene of the Crime” and asked to “Countrify It”. I personally loved the “Return to the Scene of the Crime” assingment and was thrilled to revisit it. There were only a handful of people who completed this assingment, so I used all of their photographs in my remix. The photographs links are below. I took all the photographs and created a video/slideshow to Racal Flatts “My Wish”. I found that everyone took pictures of friends or family, a theme that was easily countrified. “My Wish” is a beautiful song about hoping someone that best in their lives. I believe everyone who took these picture would agree that they only want to support thier friend and family, hoping for the best.

In order to make this video I used Windows Movie Maker. I uploaded the pictures and added music. I copied and edited the music via audacity. I uploaded that into WMM. I added transitions, then I uploaded it to YouTube. The process is simple, but the getting everything timed right is harder. You can adjust the lenght of the pictures showing on the Video Edit Menu. I, then, faded the music on WMM thorought the Music Edit Menu. I added qoute to extent the video to fit the music. All the qoute are cited and pretain to famlly, friends, and love.

Hunting Bambi ***

Mash-Up Those Movies ***

bambi

deer hunting

deer 2

I took the two original movie posters and mashed them up, in order to create a new story. My movie is about the hunting of Bambi’s mother, a untold story until now! I used Paint to cut and paste the Bambi into the Hunting White-Tail Deer poster.  In the end,  the stories were similar in that both are about white-tailed deer, but completely different genres.  I used Flickr to embed the picture into my blog.

Cinderella II : My Best Friend’s Wedding ****

Movie Trailer Mash-Up ****

This assignment tasked me to mash-up the audio of one trailer with the video of another. I knew I wanted to Cinderella II: Dreams Come True because the audio/visual for this trailer is very simple. Then, I looked around for movies about girl looking for true love. I looked at problably 15 trailers before I remembered “My Best Friend’s Wedding”. I loved the ending audio for the trailer and used that (through audacity) to overlay it (through Window Movie Maker) to the video of Cinderella II.

I loved that the story is very similar, but now there is a deeper mroe adult twist to Cinderella II.  Now insteado of Cinderella having the most wonderful marry, the movie is about the drama before they get married. In fact, there might even be another women! … you’ll have to watch to find out.

This assingment was really fun and I only used skill that I learned through previous assignments. For example, I used the PWNYouTube bookmark in order to save the trailer as mp4. Then, I used Windows Movie Maker to upload the clip. I edited the part and length of the audio through audacity . Putting together was pretty simple, I delayed the start of the audio via the Music Menu. Then, exported to YouTube!
