Week 10: Daily Creates

Above is a representation of “how old I feel”. I am a kid at heart, I often act like I’m four but only when the no one is around..hahaha. I still get ice cream all over my face, cotton candy sometimes makes a good breakfast, and taking naps is encouraged, but never successful.

Above is a representation of “time passing”. This is a kitchen timer I bought as part of my “teacher supplies”. It super cute and not too obnoxious. It allows me to keep track of class time assignments. Time passage is literal kept by the ticking of the timer.

Both of these photographs were taken on my cellphone, uploaded to online album, saved, moved to flickr & tagged, and uploaded here!

Week 9 Daily Create Story

Hello, my name is Kola. I am one year old and I love to run around and play. I have so much energy and my owner calls me “his little lion”.  The other day, I curled up on the couch with my owner… he so nice and cuddly. He was watching a movie called “The Lion King” and he picked me up and said “Look Kola its your daddy!”. My daddy! I had never seen my daddy before and I was just like him; full of energy and always getting into trouble. Another reason we were alike is that we are both forbidden to leave our home… trapped. We are trapped! If you have ever been a big jungle cat, then you know that being confined is miserable. I spend all day looking out the window… to the “shadowlands” wishing to go exploring but never being able to go. Well after seeing my daddy rebel against my grandfather and go exploring… I knew I needed to explore myself! I jumped off the couch and began to search of an unprotected opening to the outside.  I waited by the door for hours…waiting … took a nap.. and then kept waiting. Eventually, someone walked in the door and I pounce…pounced like the big jungle cat I know I am! I was out! I was free! I was lost in the jungle! I decided to explore…searching for anything…food..play mates..anything. I walked on grass around the parameter of my home…but when I turned the corner I saw something…something I’ve never seen before…MUST EXPLORE!!! What are these brown things, they are cold. EHEK! They don’t taste very good.  Yum, the green stuff poking out tastes really good. I better my owner knows what they are called… I should go find him and ask. I climbed up the backstairs and began to roar and paw at the door. My owner must have heard my deadly roar because he came running to the door. He opened the door and picked me up saying “how did you get out there my little lion, the outside isn’t for you” .. there he goes again trapping me in this cushy life. I roar and roar.. pawing at the brown round, hard, cold things I had just left. He said “why do you want those rocks so bad?” RoooooOCccccKSsssss! That must be what those things are called RRROOOOAAARcks! Man, I wish I could go out and play with the roooocks! I looked around for the opening, an exit to that big jungle outside. Wait… what is that…*sniff sniff*… smells warm…I’m on the prowl. The adventure of the jungle continues in the inside home. My lion curiosity is kicking in…I must EXPLOOORE! I crawl.. I sniff.  I see it… glowing.. moving.. it looks alive. What is it. I crouch..I pounce. I’m on top of the table. I so close to this thing.. I sniff.. I inch closer… what is this?  I bring my nose closer.. its hot! I’m scared, I run to find my owner. I jumped on time of him. ROAR ROAR.. he looks at him and says ” what do you want”. I convince him to follow me…I roar at the warm, glowing thing.. he picks me up saying ” don’t get too close to the flame you silly lion… it can burn you”. Flame? That what they call that… flame… and it is dangerous. Why is it here.. if it is dangerous, they should get rid of it. My protective lion instincts are kicking in… I need to protect my owner from this powerful glowing flame. I sit by the flame, I roar when my owner or his family come. They stay clear of the flame. Its been hours, but without me they would get “burned?”. Anyway, I’m getting sleepy.. maybe a little cat nap. I woke up to a gust of wing… the flame is gone. I sniff…I sniff.. where is the flame.. I can’t find it! Oh well, back to my “pride rock”.

Week 7 & 8 Daily Creates!

1. Take a photo that encompasses nothing, a void, absence:

This is a picture of the one blank wall in my bedroom. All of my wall have something big and “me” on the walls, but i happens that there is one wall that is slanted, small and, therefore, has nothing on it. It is a sad wall that I often over look.

2. Take a picture of the first thing you do in the morning:

My morning priority is to brush that morning breathe away. I can’t do anything until my mouth feels clean; I don’t even take in the morning.

3. Fences and wall can divide or demarcate. Make a photo of a fence or wall:

Demarcate means to separate or distinguish from… NEW WORD FOR ME!!! This wall leads to the only other major room in this one bedroom apartment. If this wall was not here, then the apartment would be a studio and not one bedroom. The number of walls (or maybe its doors) it crucial in distinguishing what apartment type a place is. This wall distinguished the main kitchen, living room area from the bedroom.

4. Find a payphone and record a video of you calling a stranger and letting them know ds106 is #4life:

I used a program called animoto which allows you to create 30 second movies with theme templates including music. In the 30 seconds, you can also used video. Its a simple to use program, but super effective. I changed the music here so it goes with out theme #4life, who better than Nicki Minaj and “Moment 4 Life”.  Using audacity, I edited the song with the payphone dialing which I downloaded from freesound.com. Finally, I used DS106 past assignments and screenshots of the DS106’s websites as my pictures. I hope you enjoy!

5. Record a 30 second time capsule message to people 100 years in the future telling them one important thing:

Again, I used a program called animoto which allows you to create 30 second movies with theme templates including music. This time, I did use one of the template the program sets out for you. I add pictures of my friends and some text, “Take Pictures”. If I was going to write a letter to myself or make a time capsule to someone else, I would want to remind the that you can’t and won’t remember it all. Therefore, you need to take pictures. (Obviously, this implies you all should be doing picture worthy things–a picture of yourself everyday will not jog your memory, just convince you that you are getting older). Have fun!

6. Take a photo of something that means a lot to you:

Winnie the Pooh was my best friend growing up. I have the hugest collection of Winnie the Pooh stuff and its still growing. Winnie the Pooh is a comfort and when I get home sick,  I curl up with my bear and watch one of his many videos. My mother wrote for my high school senior page, ” You are braver than you believe, stronger that you seem, and smarter than you think”. This quote I care with me everyday and will pass on to futuer generations.  Winnie the Pooh will always have a place in my heart.

Week 6: Daily Creates

I found doing daily creates this week extremely difficult because the design assignments were so time consuming that I would forget about daily creates. I have a problem with my creates uploading up onto the website. Last week, I couldn’t figure out why embedding flickr photo automatically had stop working. Now, my photos were not embedding into the daily create. I tried to figure out what could possible be wrong. Then, I remember last week was customize your flickr account and I had changed my privacy setting.  I had to re-upload my flickr daily creates and refresh my blog, but kow that my settings have been made so “3rd parties” can upload my image all embedding works ! :) (what a silly mistake)

Celebrating vegetarian day by eating celery. Celery and peanut-butter is on of my favorite snacks…healthy too. Here’s to the veggies that keep us strong and healthy!

floor plan

This is my main floor to the house I grew up in. I has a very open floor place between the kitchen, living room, family room, and dining room. The library is the only room that has doors and that helps when you are trying to study (quiet, secluded).

I took the sound “I Cry” by Flo Rida and edited with audacity. I raised the pitch even more than it already is.  I made the tempo faster. Then, I added a ‘paulscratch’ which is why it sound extremely slow. Hopefully, it sounds a little like alien is singing it. If not, it was still fun to play with sound. Audio is by far my favorite element.

floor plan

This picture represents a void or emptiness. It is a sad bare wall in my room. At UMW only 10% of your walls can be covered which leaves big areas  void of color in my room. Oh well, at least I follow the rules.

Week 5:Daily Creates

This weeks daily creates were a lot of fun because I used three different mediums in order to successfully complete the tasks.

This is my video which suggest “Love Sees No Color”. I made it using the program animoto, a free video maker. I decided that using pictures of my friends and there various friendships, I could show that friends see no color and thus love is blind. The program is really user friendly and has an app to upload it up to YouTube.

(Not sure why this isn’t embedding, and Viglinks adds it as a link)

Created with Admarket’s flickrSLiDR.

This is a picture of “my egghead that I love”. His name is Daniel and he is just the cutest kid ever! I babysit for him and his 4 siblings. In order to temporarily fix my embedding problem, I made this photo the only photo in a set and embedded the set. Read my “Flickr Customization” to learn how to embed sets.

This is my “sound being interrupted by an unrelated sound”. I used audacity in order to compile the two sounds I got off of freesounds.com. I chose these two sounds becasue my home is located near the train station and I often here trains. They tend to interrupt everything. I could not get a good recording of it on my own, so I enlisted the help from the “World Wide Web”.

Week 4: Daily Creates

This is my daily create for 9/17/12 where I had to take a sound clip from a song, put it in reverse, and then play the original.  I chose a song called “Faster” by Matt Nathanson. I used a free downloadable program called audacity to remix the song. Then I exported the remix as a WAV file and uploaded it to sound cloud. I have used audacity in high school in order to create podcasts, but it was fun to use this program for something non-academic.

This is my daily create for take a picture of something that represents the number 3. This is my scarecrow, Henry, and his pumpkin patch. He is my fall dorm room decoration and I love him. I find odd number of decoration much more visually pleasing than even- lucky me that the theme is “3”.

This is my daily create for draw a picture of the seriousness of golf. I drew this on my whiteboard in my dorm room. I don’t know much about golf, but mini-golf has never been a serious game when I play. Often, we end up skipping holes or giving up after 3 puts. Although, one time I did get a hole-in-one which was a great feeling.

Awesome Daily Create – 9/17/12

Week 2 Daily Creates

Above is a picture taken from my family vacation in Massanutten Resort, Va. This is a Ski Resort which during the summer is more like “arts and crafts” camp. My sister likened it to the resort in Dirty Dancing. We did actives such as river tubing, glass etching, golf, etc.  However, the view is what I remember most. The ski lift took us up the mountain where you can see the whole resort (above), but on the other side of the mountain you could see James Madison University and Harrisonburg.

Above is a picture of my brother bowling. I chose this picture because it shows a “spinning object, frozen in motion” (aka the bowling ball) which was the Daily Create assignment for DS106.

Above is my re-imagining of FUN.‘s album “We Are Young” as my third daily create. I really like FUN. and in particular the song on which their album is named. It’s an awesome ditty about embracing the day and being young no matter what responsibly you have. I chose to put hot air balloons as the background to my remade album cover because I think balloons in general are carefree and “FUN.”.  Also, its on my bucket list to go on a hot air balloon ride.

*The background of my photo is from sky waltz air ballooning.

Week 1 Daily Creates

*Keychain video can be seen in week 1 summaries

This is my prom photography which I used for a daily create which emphasize one color. I use photoshop to color pick my dress and paint the bricks behind me the same color. Prom was such a fun night. We decided that instead of the whole limo thing, we would be creative and take the metro to prom. It was super awesome being in prom dresses riding the metro. In fact, the header photo of my blog is a picture of the Washington D.C. Metro from the night of my prom. My boyfriend’s boutonniere was losing its petals, but it seem to make something as dirty as the metro seem so pretty. When is said I was ” “moore” than just your average metro-er” I was referring back to this moment and many more where my friends and I do things a little different than the rest of the world.
